Frequently Asked Questions

Iceland Travel Advice & Logistics

Planning a group trip or corporate event in Iceland involves many details. Here are the answers to the most common questions we receive at DMC Iceland. We cover everything from seasonality to payment terms.

We are a full-service Destination Management Company acting as your local partner on the ground. Our services include:

  • Ground Logistics: Airport transfers, luxury coaches, and private drivers.
  • Accommodation Management: Booking blocks at hotels, guesthouses, and luxury lodges.
  • MICE Services: Organizing conferences, venue sourcing (like Harpa), and AV setup.
  • Experience Design: Guided tours, activity bookings (snowmobiling, Blue Lagoon), and restaurant reservations.

This depends entirely on what you want your group to experience:

  • For Northern Lights & Snow: The best months are September to April. February and March offer the best balance of daylight for activities and darkness for Aurora hunting.
  • For Midnight Sun & Hiking: The best months are June to August. The weather is mild, roads to the highlands are open, and you can enjoy 24 hours of daylight for late-night golf or events.

Our primary focus is B2B services for international travel agencies, corporate planners, and large groups. However, we have a dedicated team for Luxury FIT. If you are a family, couple, or small private group looking for a high-end, tailor-made itinerary, we are happy to assist you.

The Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) are a natural phenomenon, so they can never be guaranteed. However, Iceland is one of the best places in the world to see them. To maximize your chances, we recommend a stay of at least 3 to 4 nights during the winter season (September-April) and booking hotels away from city lights.

Once we have designed your perfect itinerary, we will send you a contract and a deposit invoice to secure the accommodation and services. The final balance is typically due before arrival. We accept payments via bank transfer (SEPA) or credit card. As a member of the EU DMC Alliance, we adhere to strict European standards for financial security.

Whale watching is possible year-round, but the species vary by season:

  • Peak Season (Summer): From April to September, the bays are full of Minke Whales, Humpback Whales, and dolphins. This is the most comfortable time for boat tours due to calmer seas.
  • Winter Season: From February to March, there is often a chance to see Orcas (Killer Whales) specifically along the Snaefellsnes Peninsula.

The Icelandic weather changes rapidly, so the key is layers. We recommend:

  • Inner Layer: Thermal underwear (wool or synthetic).
  • Middle Layer: Fleece or wool sweater.
  • Outer Layer: A high-quality waterproof and windproof jacket is essential.
  • Footwear: Sturdy, waterproof hiking boots are required for most tours (glaciers, waterfalls).

Note: Umbrellas are usually useless in Iceland due to the wind!

Iceland is a member of the Schengen Agreement.

  • EU/EEA Citizens: No visa required, just a valid ID or passport.
  • US, Canada, UK, Australia: No visa required for stays under 90 days.
  • Other Nationalities: Please check with your local embassy regarding Schengen visa requirements. DMC Iceland can provide invitation letters for corporate groups once a booking is confirmed.
